I owned, and was the primary designer and creative force of Scene 2, a scenery and modelmaking studio in San Francisco. This is a portfolio of some of the projects I was responsible for until selling the business and moving to Hawaii in 2008.
Scene 2 provided a range of creative services for advertising and television, including everything from detailed miniatures to full-scale immersive environments. Television commercials and high-end advertising photography were our primary markets. I was production art director or led the art department for scores of national TV commercials, and designed the sets for several dozen PBS cooking shows and television specials during that time. Over the course of two decades, the list of commercials and national magazine print ads that Scene 2 worked on as fabricator and studio or location crew was in the thousands.
My business operated from a 14,000 square foot production facility in San Francisco, with separate spaces for carpentry, model, metal and paint shops. Over the years, we employed a staff of 6-12 full time artisans, and up to 30 freelancers at any given time.
The new ownership of Scene 2 changed the business name to One Hat, One Hand, and continues to operate from the same facility in San Francisco.
